Well, regrettably, that was Republican Clayton Williams, who ran against Ann Richards for Texas Governor in 1990. It effectively ended the race.

It wasn't a Democrat. It was the Republican nominee for governor of Texas in 1990, Clayton Williams. He lost to the recently deceased Ann Richards.

It was Bobby Knight the basketball coach. He said it about 10 years ago. And I think the true quote was something like "They should just lie back and enjoy it."
