I am assuming perhaps wrongly that you are referring to the UK police service. If notsome of my comments may not be applicable but the generality of police and firefighting work the world over has surprising similarities from my observations of other countries. There is a high rejection rate for the police service which may be understable in trying to achieve minimum standards. So you you have to first ask whether you would be acceptable as a police officer. The demands imposed on a police officer have become over the last few decades increasingly stressful and health in retirement has poor results as a police officer. Both occupations as you know have unpleasant sides which not everyone can cope with. Whilst as a fireman you may see the tragedy of sudden death and serious injuries in accidents but as a police officer this often becomes a more personal experience as officers have to relate to the relatives where the trauma very often affects them more than merely dealing with an anonymous body. The risk of everyday injury in the police service is becoming very much higher. There has to be many facets to your character to be an efficient officer with a lot of compassion at times. An experience of some of the more unpleasant aspects of life (as a firefighter say) can prepare you for what you may experience in the police service. Unfortunately almost all police officers slowly change in character and many existing marriages from before they join the service do not survive the demands and changing personality. There is no doubt it has its excitement and feeling of doing something for the community much like being a firefighter but I think from experience it holds much more for you. It will challenge you every day of your career. It is exciting, demanding work that can equally have long periods of more routine work. Do not expect to get a proper work break or get holidays when you want them. Do expect the inconveneience of being called out anytime night or day or having court dates on your days off. Your life is never in control by your self any more. Some friends may drift away unable to accept you in such a role and there is no such thing as a private life. Everything you do is under scrutiny by the public . When you are out off duty any significant offence you see you will feel obliged if not expected to deal with it. I do not regret the thirty years iIdid as a police officer but as I retired I succumbed to the heart problems caused by a stressful career that similarly I have seen in recent years kill an abnormal number of my colleagues from heart attacks. I have had an interesting experience of life that I would not change. You have to try it to find out if it is for you. The first couple of years training you will find quite hard. The first step is applying to see if you get accepted. You are restricted on making multiple simultaneous applications to police forces in the UK. Good luck if that ius what you choose to do.

Are you in the UK? If you are, I'd stay put as a firefighter. The police system is in a right mess at the moment, terrible hours for too little pay.

It depends whether you are happy being a firefighter or not!
If you are happy, stay where you are.
Whilst being a police officer is a good job, it can be incredibly stressful and demanding as well as frustrating. And as PC you are a small fish in a big pond!
You can always submit your application to the police and begin going through the process whilst you finally make up your mind. That is assuming that they are not discriminating against whatever background you come from - ie white, British, heterosexual male.

Firefighters have a high mortality and injury rate, higher than cops, I'm pretty sure, so it depends on your priorities. My grandfather was a firefighter and he died of lung cancer (wasn't a smoker). That's something to think about in the long term.

stay a firefighter as the police is a laugh nowadays who have little respect from the public. catch criminals only for the courts to let them off. there is to much paperwork and red tape.
Its not worth the hassle... trust me I know.

toss a coin rather than ask here
the guys at the firehouse I lived across were like family so something must be wrong with the family...
Cops have more freedom to ride around and bother people who arent doing anthing while down the street someone is being raped
From New Orleans Ive seen it happen
your life your choice

Firefighting is such a job that will give you blessings. A policeman will have to protect currupt men in power even if he doesn't desire.
You will have to obey your boss eventhough he is currupt or silly.
Now it is up to you what you like.
