Again, from a England perspective, where you cannot give away a old television, but because of the TV LIcence, some people cannot afford television, and in some areas the reception is so poor that a television needs to be connected to cable which is even more expensive subscription TV.

It is not only in england that this happens. I have lived without a TV for years and I didn't find it strange. Places that I lived you either had to have cable or satelite in order to get any reception. People in the US today live without a lot of the luxuries of others because of the economy, they can't afford a TV, electricity, gas, heat, food, a car, etc. etc. So no I don't find it strange at all.

I haven't owned a tv for 7 years. I never knew I was strange.

"Cork" had a great answer to this question.
I hope you knew that you could buy episodes from television on your computer. That way, it would control your tv usage and it would also save you from having to see commercials. Much better than just taking in what the media and marketers dish out.

There's lots of better things to do than watch tv. I'm sorry that people in England find it strange to not have a working "boob tube" in their homes.

No. I grew up in such a house because my parents disapproved of our wasting time in front of the "idiot's lantern". It has its advantages and disadvantages. What I would find strange would be if a person didn't have a radio.

If you are in an area where other people are in the same position as you are, you will find it quite socially acceptable not to have a TV. What I used to find irritating was when in class discussion turned to something which nearly everyone else was watching on TV and I had nothing to contribute.

Not strange. With the way they are making TVs today you almost have to have Cable or a Dish to tune in.

So whats your point.
Strange or unusual is normally related to something we have problems identifying.

Many people in the USA don't have television.
They choose not to.
Does that make these people "strange"
Many adult people don't ride bikes or go to pubs.
or eat fish and chips but it does not make them strange and unusual.

Youth run around with IPODs few older adults do--strange?

I think your question is strange.
