Spend less than I make, 20% into my 401K, and pay myself first. Before I buy anything, I make sure that 5-10% of each paycheck went into my investment portfolio.

I bought America Online. (Now Time Warner) a decade ago.

I did it the old fashioned way. My dad left me money.
