A woman can only get pregnant around 30% of her cycle – the fertile period is the day of ovulation (normally between days 12-16 of her menstrual cycle) and the days prior when fertile quality cervical mucus is present - sperm can live up to five days in fertile quality cervical mucus, without this mucus they cannot swim to the egg or survive the acidic environment of the vagina.
It is biologically impossible to get pregnant any other time, it is also impossible to accurately predict these times without using methods such as fertility awareness method or natural family planning - although women can use calendar tracking, or equipment like Persona to determine fertile periods if trying to achieve pregnancy, FAM and NFP are the only reliable means to avoid pregnancy by avoiding fertile periods and the best means of pregnacy acheivement [FAM and NFP are highly reliable forms of birth control that work on this biological principle].

Obviously you can only get pregnant when there is an egg present, which occurs when you ovulate. It only sticks around for a matter of days, so the answer to your question is YES.
However, sperm can live inside you for up to 6 days or something, so you can have sex days before you've ovulated and still get pregnant.
Also, it is difficult to tell when you have ovulated and once you're back in the safety zone, it can vary from month to month- which is why it's always best to use a proper method of contraception.
EDIT- Crystal, that just means you ovulated earlier than normal that month and there was still live sperm there! That was still the only time that month that you could have gotten pregnant.
Ovulation is not always on the same time of the month, and there's no fool-proof way to detect it- so people DO get pregnant at all times in the month- but only because that particular month they were having sex just at the right time for their cycle, whenever that may have been!

You can normally only get pregnant while you are ovulating, which is roughly 2 weeks before you period is due. But it is important to remember that sperm can live for as much as 7 -10 days in some cases. which means you could have sex the week before you ovulate, not have any sex during that week and still up end pregnant. Good if that's what you want. If your trying the more sex you have, the better your chances and at least its the best fun trying. If your not wanting a baby maybe you should see your doctor about contraception. Good luck with whichever is the case.

There is only about 24 hours to which it take an egg to pass through your body, but up to 3 days when you ovulate in which this occurs. How ever, the reason some women get pregnant even if they haven't had sex for a few days surrounding their ovulation is because sometimes when a man ejaculates into you, your body can store the sperm for 3-7 days before it is discarded.

Its higly unlikely that you can get pregnant when you arent ovulating. Ovulation is the best time to get pregnant, to figure out when that is, use your last day of your first period and count 14 calender days from that... example if your last period the first day was august 21, count 14 calender days that would make it sept 4... when u could get pregnant!!
