after you do a re-install you need to reinstall all drivers and chipset drivers aswell
sometimes windows will recognize the sound card you are using and will install a version of the hardwares driver found in windows
however windows cannot hold all the drivers of every device going,so what you need to do is go to start>control panel>system properties>device manager>and scroll dound to sound devices were you will find a question mark next to the sound card, this is were you will start when you need to install your new drivers for your sound card
start by updating drivers>and tick the option to use the internet to find the drivers,if this dosent work you will have to find the drivers from the makers website
check the discs that came with your p.c as there should be chipset drivers in there and they will contain the audio drivers
basically when you reinstalled windows ,you got rid od all your drivers( graphics, sound, lan ect)and all these have to be found and re-installed
many people back up drivers on a dvd-rom so in a situation like this you will have all the nessecary drivers to hand
good luck

If you have no sound, you're probably missing the drivers.

To check do one of the following (both take you to the same place):

1) If you have a "My Computer" icon on your desktop, right-click it, go to Properties, click on the "Hardware" tab and then click on "Device Manager".

2) Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System then click on the "Hardware" tab then click on "Device Manager"

This will bring up a list of all the devices on your computer. Anything that has a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark on it next to it needs a driver installed.

You may have had a driver disk supplied with your computer, if so, use that. Otherwise you can usually download the appropriate drivers from the website of the company that supplied your computer. (You may have to contact their support centre if you can't find them or don't know which ones apply to your computer). Failing that, go to the manufacturer of the soundcard, or the manufacturer of the motherboard if the sound is on-board.

You should reinstall your sound card driver. Insert your motherboard cd into your cd-rom. Go to control panel, then system, hardware, device manager and click at the driver which has question mark then follow the instruction in the computer.

If it's a PCI soundcard, such as Soundblaster then in all likleyhood you just need to reinstall the drivers from the CD that came with it, or from the manufacturers website.

If it's on-board (yuk) sound, then go into your BIOS at start-up and look for the setting for On-Board Sound: Disabled/Enabled and set it accordingly.

if you can still go on-line you can reinstall the sound driver first you have to check the hardware profile
START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL> SYSTEM > HARDWARE AND CLICK ON DEVICE MANAGER if there is an exclamation mark on sound this means that you need to install the correct sound driver
you may have it in you installation disks if not the manufacturers computer site will have it download it for free

You may have deleted the driver. Try searching the web for the make of the sound card + "download". Many are free.

Good Luck!
