First of all, walk on your toes, not your heels. There is not much to support your weight if you put your heel down first, like when you walk in sneakers or other flats. The heel of the shoe isn't meant to hold all your weight, that's how women break heels off of their shoes.
Take small steps. Don't try to keep the normal length of your stride, no matter how fast or slow you walk. You should be walking with a shorter stride for better balance.
Make sure you are keeping your feet in line. Your legs should be close together, or even brushing. Don't try to walk like fashion models with one foot right in front of the other, it's a little tricky when you aren't used to high heels.

Practice as much as you can. Wear them around the house to get used to them quicker.
A good way to make sure you are walking balanced, is to use the old book on the head. Try it in flat feet first. Once you've mastered that, then put on your heels.

I don't think that there's a trick to it. You do have to practice. If you have a full body mirror try walking in front of it so you can see what you look like. Try putting one foot in front of the other, like if you were walking on a straight line. You can always put down some tape in front of a mirror and practice your walking there. Posture is also important, make sure you're not slouching. Try to imagine there's a sting on the top of your head that's pulling you up. You can also try walking around your house in heels (not really tall ones, something smaller like a 3inch heel) so you get used to the feeling. It sounds like hard work but you should get pretty good at it after a while. Good luck.

ps. - Don't buy any shoes that are painfully uncomfortable. Some women make the mistake of doing that just because the shoes look good, not a good idea.

Practice at home and take small steps at first. Don't try really high heels at first, just get lower heels that you can handle and then keep getting higher heels gradually. Be careful, high heels can be a dangerous thing even if you have been walking in them for 20 years. I have fallen and twisted my ankle a few times. I don't wear really high heels anymore, they are bad for your feet.

I have the same problem. I love the way they look, especially to go out in. But that's all I wear them for ( the rest of the time I'm in either sneakers, or flat shoes for work), so my feet aren't used to them. However, a girl I work with can run in them & do everything wearing them with no trouble, so I think you just need to keep wearing them but take small steps & walk slowly until you're used to the feel.

take small soft/gentle steps and lead/land on your heels not your toes, make sure they fit if too big you'll slip out each time your foor landsand may hurt yourself, too small you'll walk funny because you are in pain. Try a few pairs, walk around your house as said by others, start with 2/3inches, not too high then when you feel okay go up an inch and so on.

Just like everyone else said....practice practice practice.

I know for me when i start with anew pair of heels I take smaller steps and try to walka little slower. Once I'm used to them I'm back to quicker steps...my more usual way to walk.

I'm also sure that you don't walk as weird as you feel that you do. Ask an honest friend to watch you and they'll tell you I'm sure.

Go to a really good drag revue and ask a few of the "ladies" there. Or study a Fred Astair - Ginger Rogers flick. Wow! While watching, keep in mind the old saying, "Ginger did everything Fred did - backwards, and in high heels." It's supposed to mean that girls are so much better than guys at everything...

You walk quicker than normal, always in a straight line. High heel walking is always runway style. Try it in your house, even with a book on your head so you know your balanced. You cant look dumb if you are balanced, standing up straight and with a smile..confidence is sexy as well! Never forget that part!

Wedges are too lovable to be basically for 'beginners'. notwithstanding, they seem to be a reliable shoes determination for discovering to stability and walk with a greater robust heel. Well i just had walking lessons from my sister and i'm still practising. She got me to walk in straight lines, small steps and keeping my feet close together bit like your walking on a line. Let your bottem poke out a little bit and chest, if you have one, go a little bit foreword and be careful turning.
Just wish they made em in small sizes.
