Untouchability was an evil practiced by the upper class of people in the Indian society towards the persons belonging to lower strata. They were the socially and economically backward sections of the society. Normally they weren't allowed to draw water from the community well nor enter places of worship where the upper class worshipped. They were not even allowed to use the same road that was used by the common people. It was very much like the aparthied practiced in America.

But that was ages ago. These days India which is the largest democracy in the world has completely abolished untouchability everywhere. It is a crime now to do the same. Now every person is same and all are equal. I have no knopwledge of any place where untouchability is practiced anymore.

untouchables was a class classification which was there before in india. this classification was more from the jobs they used to do. this was prior to the period when all were educated & some jobs were considered menial & people shirked from doing them. times have changed & so has the attitude & thinking of the people.
india may have had a class called untouchables, eah county has had some social evil ofight against so please refrain from talkng about any country orher pople in such a derogtory manner. we realised our mistakes & are rectifying the same. racial/social discriminations been a part of practically all nations. but when one realises their mistakes & works towards improvement thats the true upliftment of human beings.

My friend form the vedic period the human kind in India was divided into four categories according to their work and place of living,
Chatrias (People who ruled the country and the warriors), Andhanas ( People who was teaching, Preaching, Looking after the poojas and yagnas)
Vysas ( who were buyers and sellers in charge of import and export )
Sutharsa ( who did other works like farming, Diary, all other essential works )

There has been not bocked any person can do any work up to his will Example : Viswamitra, Dhrona

after some centuries because of illiteracy and fore gin invasion foxed minded people who ruled us divided us into variety for their safe now the modern India which is emerging as one of the economic super power gradually rubbing this kind of thing by educating each other. The word untouchable has been slowly diminishing many great leader has fought for it and leader from them also ruled our nation Example : K.R. Narayanan, Dr. Ambatker to Now Kanshiram and Mayawathi
