If the build up is pretty heavy, then the finger tip suck method is used to get it off. Licking probably isn't enough. After the crust is removed your left with the residual orange tint. This has to be washed off with lots of water and soap. Mouth and tongue are also orange and therefore can't clean your fingers sufficiently.
Yeah, I know, I have put a lot of thought into this.

Whenever I do eat them (I hardly eat them anymore), I wash it off if I'm somewhere other than home... If I am at home, I wash my hands before I eat, eat the chips, then lick my fingers. I just can't lick my unwashed fingers because I can imagine all of the germs and nasty bacteria on it....
