it isn`t against the law now. Soliciting in the street is and so are brothels but its not illegal to be a prostitute

sorry to disappoint you, it's not illegal anyway.
Look in the adverts column of the Sport "news"paper. Prostitutes all over the cuntry.

the only rule is that brothels are illegal - so 1 girl working in a flat plus 1 maid (as a witness in case of trouble) is fine.

Streetwalking is illegal.

If you are near London, go to soho and look around. It's been rather cleaned up these days but there are still open doorways with notices saying something like "Model - walk up" or "Young Model - All services" or something similar. Great fun!

As we all know, prostitution is the oldest profession in the world. Nowadays, all the women I see appearing in court have become prostitutes in order to fund a drug habit. I personally find it hard to believe that any man or woman would chose this route purely through prostitution being their preferred career. It appears that there are pre-existing self-esteem issues/drug problems that motivate their choice. In a sense then, they are being taken advantage of. However, since there is a market for it, it will always exist. The government makes street-walking illegal (just like possession of drugs is illegal) so that it can get its cut of the money generated. People in possession of a relatively small amount of drugs and women/men/boys/girls who solicit for sex will invariably receive a fine if they appear in court and are convicted/plead guilty. The government doesn't care about the workers in the profession or why members of its society choose to take this path, it only cares about getting a slice of the money generated by the industry. I am not in a position to judge anyone else or their manner of making money so will myself cop out of answering your question. Just sharing my thoughts on the subject. Peace.

Totally! Introduce legalised brothels. Providing a stable environment would keep the girls safe from psycho 'clients' and regular testing of the working girls would help to keep both parties (reasonably) safe from STD's. The government could tax it, take the seediness out of it and maybe people would lose their hang-ups about sex. I am CONVINCED that if this country had a less distorted view of sex and the sex industry there would be fewer sex crimes and less unhappy repressed people.

it would get rid (or greatly cut down on, should i say) the number of stds they and their clients contract; and the women wouldn't be abused by sleazy pimps and clients. it's always gonna be around. those 'morals' are christian and other religions morals and not representative or valid to our laws. prostitution has been around for tens of thousands of years and won't go away. it's our responsibility to protect people, therefore we should legalise it.

i can't quite get my head around why we made it illegal in the first place. people are aware of the dangers, and it's their choice what they do with their bodies. what i'm suggesting is that we legalise bothels with proper regulations in place to protect everyone

definatley. Think of what a boost it would be to the economy and women would of course have to change there sexist attitude to dating if they still expect men to pay for everything and its cheaper to go see a prostitute then that will help solve that problem. Women would be safer and liberated. We could make red light districts in every city and every city needs that seedy element. Its what writers write about.

Yeah, I think it should. Get rid of the pimps! Would take away a lot of the risk involved if it was legal.

It's a persons (not just women sell their bodies) right to make money in whatever way they see fit!

Prostitution is one of the oldest professions after all!

Even though it may be a victimless crime, I think legalizaing prostitution would gradually legitimize and de-stigmatize it. As a result, some young girls may choose this profession as the easy route to a good paying job instead of going to college and making the most of their life.

So no - I think it would create incentives that are bad for the overall development of society.

Absolutely. If someone wants to go down that road, they'll do it regardless. If we made it all legal it could at least be done in a clean, safe and controlled enviornment.

Prostitution should be legalized everywhere. It's a straight up personal choice if someone wants to sell their self.
