Do high doses affect baby? I have a friend who needs to take it for varicose veins and clotting concerns, but also doesn't want to hurt her baby.

400 iu daily should not be a problem. Vitamin E is generally recognized as safe during pregnancy and lactation in doses up to 800 iu daily. Vitamin C with bioflavinoids and/or grapeseed extract are also helpful for varicosities and blood clot prevention. 500 mg of C should not be quite safe and helpful.

All you should take is 400 IU daily, even when healthy. But Vitiman E will not affect breast milk.
