I am framing directly on the block. Can I space my studs 24" to center instead of the standard 16"? I know I am just being cheap, but though i would ask anyhow.

Sure, if all you are doing is holding up drywall or panelling.

The 16" spacing requirement is for a structural wall, holding up a roof or 2nd story.

Should be fine if you use 5/8" drywall. I did the same in my basement. Instead of using 2X4 studs I used 3/4" thick furring strips. Then I filled the void with 3/4" rigid polyisocyanurate insulation instead of the pink stuff. Gave me a good solid wall with a high R value.

Sure you can do that but since stantard is what it is if later you decide to do something else that is standard you may experience issues and have to insert boards to fix what you didn't do to begin with...we bought a house and had to fix this very thing...

if it is a bearing wall I'd recommend 16" but if it's partition you can get by with 24"..
