I dont, I my case I am because my father was born in West Africa, Liveria and my mother was born in the states. So I do consider myself to be an African American.

I don't either. I have black friends that are from Haiti, and their ancestors are also from Haiti. Some people do think that, though!

The same can be said if you flip your original question around: Do you believe that all African Americans are black? The answer would be no (I'm South African and I'm white.) It reminds me of the movie Mean Girls; one of the popular idiot blondes at school can't understand how a classmate can be from Africa if she's white!

African American is just a made up term that has little meaning and simply confuses the heck out of some. It was just made popular to make the U.S. blacks feel good about themselves as they were treated like crap. The confusing part comes in when people assume that all blacks in America are African-American; that is hardly the case. Even more confusion comes when people want to call whites or Arabs from Africa, African-American. African-American is specifically for the blacks born in American who were descendants of the slaves from Africa.

I'd only believe that all blacks were african american if I knew that all blacks originated from Africa. If that were the case then I would say yes, all blacks in america are african american. It doesn't matter whether or not your parents are from africa as long as someone down the line of your ancestors is.

They are americans, but i think their grand fathers are African.

I've been to Africa and my ancestors trace back to Liberia when they were sent back from the U.S. during slavery. But, I just call myself black. I'm so over the whole "African-American" thing. It takes too long to say and all my white friends are always stumbling over which to say. I tell them to call me black.

Just like light skinned blacks shouldn't think they're better than dark skinned blacks, you and I are still one and the same, regardless if you've got pops coming over from Africa.

When people ask my nationality they want to know from where did my roots start ....I am Irish and English..with Spanish and French tossed in....although most of my ancestors were Irish and I was born in America...So if your parents started in Africa, you are African.
