It depends. If the enemy attacks with physical attacks, then yes, half damage. But, if the enemy uses long range attacks, like guns or magic, you will still receive full damage. Also, keep in mind, unless your character has a long range weapon or has the long range materia equipped, you will only do half damage to the enemies.
