Is my co-worker trying to annoy me?
I have this problem with this coworker. She's a tech and I'm a secretary at a unit in the hospital. She likes to talk down on me. I think she purposely trys to annoy me. She asks me questions like have you seen Dr. so and so, when he's right there just so I knew who she was talking about. She's bossy as well. She dosn't ask me to get something for her thats within distance of her reaching it like her purse. She tells me..orders me esentially..with numerous stuff.. She so lazy.
I talked to my boss. She said talk to her. I talk to her she gives me attitude, and tells me i have an attitude. What do I do?? Don't tell me quit, because I can't with my financial situation.

recently i was so pissed because she was walking by the desk and she took her book and slapped it on my back/butt and she then put it on the drawer. I simply told her that wasn't right. And she gave me attitude. She basically said whatever.

As a "tech" does she have any authority over you? What would happen if you simply ignored her and her "requests"?

I think that the most effective way to solve the problem is: document the occurrance. (who, what, where, when, how, witnesses, dates and times); arrange a follow-up with your boss, ask if a HR rep. should be involved since the unwelcomed attention has created a hostile work environment; and indicate that if the problem is not resolved quickly, you will be within your rights to pursue further action, not only against the employee, but also the hospital.

Kalik and Tennille gave the best answers here; following both of their suggestions in the best path to take. Go back to the boss you talked to before; then go over his head to HR. Send letters or e-mails to the harasser, cc'ed to the boss and HR, detailing all events. If they still do nothing, then you have a dead-on harassment claim against the hospital. Especially for the butt-slap; that was way out of line in any context. You have solid proof that they knew what was going on and did nothing to resolve the situation.

Inform your boss that this woman is creating a hostile working environment. If you boss has no better advice than 'talk to her', then inform your boss that you will be taking this up to HR. The fact that she 'talks down to you', or is 'bossy' is not a HR issue. The fact that she has made physical contact and is trying to intimidate you is creating a hostile working environment. When you start saying that the work environment is getting that way, there will be a response. DOCUMENT each incident too. Dates, times, inform this woman that it isn't appreciated. BCC your supervisor and start a paper trail.

Good Luck.

The answer is simple. Revist your boss. Let him/her know the situation again. Tell them that you talked with the indivdual and it continues to be a problem. It is your bosses responsibility to make sure you are comfortable in your workplace. Harassment of any kind is not permitted in the workplace. If your boss refuses to get involved then I would contact Human Resources and inform them of the problem. Trust me, with the current lawsuits HR will act promptly. Make sure to go to your boss first, let him/her know that if it isn't resolved that you will be filing a complaint with HR, this way your boss cannot say you simply went over his/her head

If you already spoke to your supervisor and nothing was done I would escalate it from there. In a hospital setting you should have some sort of HR dept. Go to them and plain as day tell them you are being harrassed. Otherwise, bring it up to your supervisor again or go to her (the tech's) boss.
