Depending on what type of disability and assistance you receive for your husband, (in the case of a physical disability) your local community living/social services would be able to connect you with respite care for your husband. (in cases of a mental illness) your mental health centre and/or social services should be able assist you in finding a respite service as well. keep in mind respite can also be used if YOU just need some time for yourself. Being a sole care giver can be emotionally and physically demanding....do not neglect yourself, and do not feel guilty about admitting you need help and/or a break. Sometimes it's easier to think of it as if you do not take care of yourself who will be there to take care of your husband. ( sorry i often find caregivers do not feel like they are "allowed" to take a day off, and can not stress enough how important it is)

Depending on your funds you have several options:
1 Pay someone from a Nursing Agency to live in.
2 Pay someone from an Agency to come into the home several times a day.
3 Contact your Local Citizen Advice Bureau to give you local Care Home addresses (depending on the care your husband needs) who will asses your husband and then he could go for respite during the time of your absence. Soc. Services might part fund this choice. Good Luck.

Contact the social services and ask them to provide details of respite care for your husband while you are in hospital. They should be able to help.

Where I live they have home health agencies that have sitters.
Hospices also have volunteers who do this. I don't know if they have to be terminally ill or not . I'm assuming there is no family to help you. Maybe he could stay at a nursing facility until you are able to care for him again. Does he have medicare or medicaid?

You have to contact a home health care nursing company. Just to get you through this time, until you are back on your feet. Can friends and family help too?

Remember---you are no good to him if you don't take care of yourself.

I think your first line of help should be your social worker, if you have one. After all they are there to provide help your husband may need.
