Here is an excerpt from the Gore article in Wikipedia. Republicans never talk about this. They just like to say "Al Gore invented the Internet" in a mocking tone of voice.

"Gore was highly influenced by the 1988 report Toward a National Research Network [50] submitted to Congress by a group chaired by UCLA professor of computer science, Leonard Kleinrock, one of the central creators of the ARPANET [51].

After hearing this report, Gore introduced legislation during the late 1980s known informally as the Gore Bill [52]. It was passed, however, as the High Performance Computing Act of 1991 [53] on Dec. 9, 1991 and led to the NII or National Information Infrastructure [54] which Gore referred to as the Information superhighway."

Actually, he said, "we practically invented the internet". This was on Larry King Live, and it was funny as hell.

Note: The ARPANET was Actually the major precursor of the internet, so it's fair to say that Al Gore did participate in the creation of the internet, it just seemed like so preposterous a claim that people just had to mock it.

I'm not an Al Gore detractor, but I did hear him make stupid remarks and statements. All polititions s t r e t c h the truth, but some have the ability to conceal their lies while others make them real obvious. They probably believe the voters are all a bunch of nit-wits who can't tell the difference.

I am not a huge fan of Al Gore, but at least he has the ability to poke fun at himself.

On the TV show Futurama, he lampoons himself often and in one episode claims to be both a wizard and "the inventor of the internet".

As you know Al Gore never claimed he invented the Internet, however he did make the following quote:

"During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet."

Which although it is phrased clumsily, does not mean that he himself is taking credit for 'inventing' the Internet.

The repuglicans will use anything that Rush Limbaugh says to assassinate the caricature of anybody that opposes them. What gets me is the gullible people that believe it. It is noon here in the east and Limbaugh will be on the radio and when his program is over they will be in here reciting word for word what lies he has said..
