Claim: Two men each lost an arm in a grisly tug-of-war contest.
Status: True.

Origins: On 25 October 1997, a mass tug-of-war contest was held at a park along the Keelung River in Taipei in celebration of Retrocession Day (the 52nd anniversary of the end of the Japanese colonial rule in Taiwan). Over 1,600 participants joined in the contest, exerting over 80,000 kg of force on a 5-cm nylon rope that could bear a force of about 26,000 kg at most.

The most scary fact I know is that the Law of Karma is an absolute, the only absolute on the physical plane save that of birth and death, but these two are better referred to as "transitions".

As ye sow, so shall ye reap. What this means is that you will have to experience everything you do to all forms of life... at some time in some life. And, if what you have done is very bad, you will also spend time in some hell [at the close of the life in which you did it] learning never to do what you did again [and this learning is an absolute].

In addition, as long as ones load of Karma is substantial, one cannot go Home, or even begin the process of going Home. The idea of spending countless lives on this plane in various forms of being, receiving negative Karma life after life.... is pretty scary to me. And I am thankful I don't have this prospect facing me.

Peace
