That would be a trademark and not a copyright.
To register a trademark, that's done either through your Secretary of State for a State trademark or the US Patent & Trademark Office for a Federal trademark.
If you are only conducting business in one state, then a State trademark is most appropriate. If you conduct (OR are planning to conduct) business in at least 2 states OR between the US & any other country, you can file for a Federal trademark.
Prior to investing your time, money & effort into a name, it is strongly advised that comprehensive research be conducted to ensure that the name you're interested in is truly available.
This entails searching the pending & registered Federal and State trademark files as well as the US National Common-Law files. Then, if clear, you can decide if you would like to file for a Federal or a State trademark.
Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

You can "Copy Right" an invention, a book, an idea. You can Trademark your logo. You can register the name. If this is an existing company and you already have a DBA, then you're already set locally. Last I heard, it's a 2 year process. What they do is spend time researching to see if the name exists on a national level. Depending on how big you tend on being (if you have investors in place, ect...), then I would get a lawyer involved. I myself own a small fashion designing business. I started it in 2000. First I started out as a DBA and then became an LLC. Get your TR# and/or your RN# (for taxes and wholesale). My memory is a little fuzzy... I went through all of this about 5 years ago. But the best thing to do is get on the web, check out where you can first register for a DBA or an LLC in your county, and ask the people in those offices advise... who to call- they'll be ableto give you the right phone #'s. They will be able to give you the most accurate and updated information simply because not only do they deal with people with those kind of questions everyday, but also because they'll be more familiar of who, what where in your county. Getting your brand Trade Marked is pretty costly and it takes time and it's really not necessary in the beginning stages.

The quickest and easiest thank you to copyright some thing is to incorporate the copyright image (C) and/or the assertion "Copyright 2006 by using (your/corporation call), all rights reserved" on the article. If this label is for use industry-extensive it must be on your suited inerests to commerce Mark and sign in it. of direction if somebody desires to scouse borrow your layout they are going to do it besides, and in many cases you will in no way comprehend it till it appears that evidently throughout a popular media (clothing line, magazine, television, etc.)
