I am a working mom. is there a rule that says we can use sick leaves when kids are sick.

Under the Family Medical Leave Act, an eligible employee is entitled to 12 weeks unpaid leave in a 12 month period. The leave can be continuous or intermittant (by week, by day), and is extended to working parents to care for a child with a serious medical condition, as certified by a medical practioner. The employer has a right to request such certification.

An eligible employee is one who has worked one year or more and at least 1250 hours in the past year for an employer with 50 or more employees.

If you don't have "sick days" at your place of employment, for less than serious conditions, check with Human Resources, or your supervisor to determine what the company policy is.

If you do have "sick days", simply call off "sick".

Be sure to check with your employer. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem. My company allows for parents to take sick leave when their children are at home ill. I don't have any children, but I did get "sick leave" when my dog had to have surgery. :)

I'm sure you can take your paid sick days for any reason. Check and see what you are allowed under the company policy.

I think this varies from company to company, but with all such matters, bear in mind that the company employed you because they need you, and want you to be happy. Seek clarification from the HR department and most firms are symathetic.
