My friends and I live in Steubenville and are looking to go to a pick your own apple orchard this weekend. We want to go to one that is somewhat large and worth the experience and quality. We are especially looking for any in the Pittsburgh area, especially the Western/Southern environs of Pittsburgh.

Thanks!

There are bound to be several "pick your own" orchards in the area you specify. Since this is a seasonal business, most of them do not list themselves in the Yellow Pages or other directories. Most of them rely on word of mouth advertising and almost all of them run ads in the local newspapers when the crops are ready to pick. Therefore, the best bet is to watch for the ads in your local newspaper. Many locally produced television morning and news programs will also feature these businesses in the Fall season.

Another outstanding source of information is your local farmers markets. Many of these orchardists sell part of their crops in the farmers markets. It is worth a trip to the market to talk to them. they will advise as to picking hours and pricing as well as to the availability of different varities of apples.

Good luck with your search.

Sunny Slope Orchards near Brewster OH. It'll be a 90 minute drive for you but this place is amazing--countless varieties of apples and other fruit.
