If your coolant is brown you probably need to flush your cooling system. A dirty cooling system can also cause your over heating problem. You can get a back-flush kit at any parts store. The newer Chevy's use a pink coolant additive (I always forget the name of it, sorry). It will also help your car run cooler and can be good for up to 100,000 miles. The old green coolant should be changed every year. Before you change the coolant and do the back flush you must first find out it you have a leak. You should not have to add water or coolant to your car. If you do you have another problem that must be fixed before you go through the trouble of flushing and adding new coolant.

I agree with Lance and Bill K: If your coolant is brown, it needs to be replaced. Your car may be overheating because the coolant has outworn its useful life--or it could need a thermostat.

The dealership should be the first to tell you that an antifreeze change is necessary every year, and overheating can be caused by a multitude of things. Your mother needs to pay for the diagnosis time to fix the car, because overheating is serious business and could cost you your engine.

I know that newer cars and European cars tend to use orange/pink colored antifreeze; if I remember correctly, it's synthetic and has a longer life span than regular antifreeze.

And BTW, the dealership is adding a 50% water / 50% antifreeze mix to your car whenever they top off the level.

The pink antifreeze is used in only newer model vehicles...If the coolant is brown you need to have it flushed and changed out. and have new antifreeze put in. If the car is overheating. you should check the thermostat. And since you say they keep adding fluid that should tell you that there is a leak some place . and needs to be fixed or found. and repaired as well......

Have a nice day..
