Hold down the play/pause button until the screen goes blank.

after you did what the first person said, lock the ipod by using the switch at the top. if it's not locked, it will still play even if it was just accidentally pressed in your pocket. =)

to turn it back on, make sure you unlock the top switch and you're good to go..
