Yes, you need to talkto the highways department and it needs to be built to thier spec. They are less concerned on cul-de-sacs or small residential roads. They are more concerned about A roads and busy rat-runs.

It does not have to be built by someone with a highways licence because you can do all the work from your land or pavement, haveever the spec has to be aherend to. Any groundsworks contractor can do this, make sure they use hot tar rather than the cold stuff, that doesn't last 2 minutes and highways will be onto you about the wrecked pavement.

Seems daft, but sometimes they refuse when the road is busy even though a dropkurb would get your car off the road.

Unfortunately you do we are going through the process at the moment. you have to phone your council and they will send you forms to fill in, they will want to know the width of the kerb you want dropping and if you want anything moving like lamp posts, you have to draw diagrams. You can either get someone in to do it or the council will do it at a charge they will also take into account what type of road it is, it is costly its cost us £300 so far and we haven't got the kerb done or our drive yet. Good luck and i hope this info helps.

You have to get permission from your local Council (Highways Department). They will send an officer to see you. If you do any work without permission the Council can make you re-instate.

You need permission off the local council highways department. They will also probably insist on fitting it, at your expense!! Give them a ring, they will tell you everything you need to know. Good luck
