When we say "War is over if you want it," we mean that if everyone demanded peace instead of another TV set, we'd have peace. - John Lennon (1940-1980)

No, because peace cannot be reached until all terrorists are gone, North Korea stops its threatening behaviour, Arabs stop trying to exterminate Israel, and communism completely collapses in China and Russia. Then we might have a chance at peace, but I don't think that it will ever happen. The best you can do is live peacefully and hope that others follow your example.

Cyber Spacer is right when she says John Lennon was a dreamer. I would like to believe, though, that his dream is not an impossible one, just a very far off one. War can be over if we want it, but with peace in our hearts, violent nations will take advantage of us while our guard is down. Peace may be possible for an isolated country, but the USA is not quite ready for unconditional peace.

Many years ago I dug deep into a muddy foxhole thinking about John Lennon and war being over if you want it but it just kept coming... I realize now that it was the words, the idea that appealed to me at that time, certainly seemed better than the insanity of combat. But as long as jerks are making money selling bullets, guns, bombs, the path will always be toward WAR. Old WW I song, WAR, WAR, WAR, prunes the population, thins the welfare lines.... author unknown...

John Lennon was an overrated, over publicized, alcoholic and drug addict with a nice singing voice.

He only had the platform to share his views because he was a member of the Beatles. Great band but it did not make him any more knowledgeable about social issues than you, me or anyone else.

I wonder if he realized today what his influence produced if he would be apologetic. I doubt it. So sad.

I agree because what he was also saying is that people are too greedy for peace to ever reign. People will always demand another TV set instead.

Nope. He was dead wrong. Because his hippie-dippy utopian ideals do not account for the fact that not everybody will want peace and love. There are those who hate and seek to destroy, who blame others for their own shortcomings. This will always lead to conflict.

It is the human condition. To ignore it is to court tragedy.

Nope.. Sorry.. He was a dreamer.. "Imagine all the people"
War is nessasary FOR peace. without war, everyone would take advantage where and of whomever, because they knew that they could get away with t, without having to be accountable for thier actions.
