I've tried JetDry, cascade actionpacs, regular cascade, and electrosol 3-in-1.

First make sure the temp on your water heater is at least 140 F. Otherwise your soap won't all dissolve and will leave that nasty, gritty film you speak of. Whirlpool and the models that are produced by them are the best on the market hands down. Cascade Complete is the best detergent out there. "Pre-rinsing"...if you have to do that you might as well not even have a dishwasher unless it has two legs and goes to school. Give your dishwasher a "dry run". Let it go through it's whole cycle and clean itself with out any dishes. Your chopper might need replaced, but water temp is what I'd check first.

First you need to clean the bottom and inside of your dishwasher with bleach. Let the dishwasher go through the whole cycle to be sure the gritty film is gone. If the film is still there have your water checked. Main question......do you rinse the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher? Secondly, are there greasy pans being added?

Have you tried dishwasher cleaner. There may be a build up on the walls of it and you don't realize it. I think the stuff I buy is made by Jet Dry. It's usually located by the dishwasher soap at the store. It's a small white bottle that you put into the silverware holder of the dishwasher and run a cycle. You won't believe how great it looks and how good it runs after you do this. Good Luck!

My sister has your problem to and some dishes will not survive the dishwasher because of the products and heat. All glass will become milky and the shiny film over your china will dissolve too. Some dishes are not qualified for cleaning in the dishwasher. I still do them by hand.

Check all the outlets. Something is plugging them. We have a little basket on our ASKO which we need to look at every so often.

If you have teenagers they leave stuff on the plates....

After that run the dishwasher at least once with nothing in it.

Then run it with diswasher soap (yes it seems wasteful).

Try your dishes again. You don't say how old it is, but it might just be worn out.

And, if you have hard water, you may have clogged spray jets.

best,

cez

Have you tried presoaking your dishes? That's what my dishwasher did, and they only thing that got them really clean was a good soaking. You could always buy a better dishwasher, I suppose.
