Your first three are probably unrealistic simply because you're taking a beautiful animal out of its natural habitat, and in the case of the Storm Petrel, it may be a protected species, in which case you'll have the wildlife protection gestapo breaking down your door at 2 in the morning. So might I suggest an alligator. A small harmless one. About 8 or 10 inches long. It would be fun watching them chase each other around the living room furniture and form what naturalists call a "dissimilar-species bond". They eat the same food pretty much. And they could form what is known as a symbiotic relationship. The alligator could teach your cat how to swim and dive and hold his/her breath for 15 minutes to a half-hour. And the cat could teach the alligator how to hunt mice and birds. If local municipal ordinances prohibit keeping an alligator in your pad, simply cut off most of his tail (this is no way harms the gator) paint him brown and register him as an exotic breed of canine from Albania, or may Zyrkistan. This has been done before. You can look it up. Of course, after the gator reaches 24", I would get someone to fashion a device that would fit over his snout so he could open his mouth no more than 2 inches. Despite the love, accidents can and do happen.

A dog is most likely to befriend your cat. Spider Crabs and Dune bugs don't like anyone and the Storm Petrel is as likely to eat your cat as to befriend it.

consider a greyhound. Research shows how many cats just curl up next to them. There so warm and the kitties just love the heat.
A cat-safe greyhound is so loving to - some even lick the cats like a mother would to a kitten.
Greyhounds lick themselves like cats to - something very common between the two
This is a proven fact - I have one greyhound and two cats. My son's bird, just walks all over the greyhound too. I work with Greyhound rescue, and many others share the same stories too.

All pets are different so you cant really say which is better. But if you chose an animal you want the cat will adapt to him or her after a short term.

Try a puppy, start off by keeping them apart. Keep your cat in one room and the puppy in another, then swap rooms. Once your cat gets used to the smell then try and introduce them. If your cat gets too nasty then just tap it on the nose and say no, bad cat.
They will get used to each other eventually.

You should get a serval. That way when you walk on the street if the serval ever gets in a fight or a pit bull threatens you then you can rest assured you will not have to feed your cute serval kitty for a week as you will have enough pit bull meat to last you.

your cat will try to eat and/or attack anything to small - i have had small and big dogs and ferrets. All of my dogs get along with my cats - finally, it took some time though...
The smaller dogs it took more time, but my golden retriever took to the cat right away and they are best friends.
The ferrets worked out really well - they jump around together, and it is really quite entertaining.

none of the above would be suitable for various reasons. I would suggest a reticulated Python, from experience I know that it would Kiss & Cuddle your pussey before having it over for dinner and then settling down for a nice long sleep with it.
