Democracy because it ensures the maximum quality of life for the greatest number of people.

The problem stems from the implementation of democracy.

In Countries like the US or Canada or the UK for example, democracy developed slowly and in stages. At first, only land owners voted, then men of military service age, later women and minorities.

The idea was to allow voting privileges only to those with a vested interest in the success of the society.

In our modern age, a similarly prejudicial system is unworkable for a number of reasons both moral and practical.

As a result, democracy is "forced" on people who are not ready for it or who feel they need to resist change becasue it scares them.

If we show the examples of social tolerance and economic success and we apply inexorable pressure to non democratic countries, they will eventually buy into our system of governance.

Then we will have lasting peace on Earth, or at least conflict will be limited to minor players and not major powers.

Russia and China are moving towards democracy.

Russia is socially about where the US was in 1940 and China is about at 1900, but both are advancing at their own rate and will "catch up" in a generation or so.

Patience will win.
