Good point. My family wasn't here until 1900, but that does not matter to some people.

If they are looking to blame, they are not looking at facts.

I am a black person that wanted to put some input in this. I don't know why somebody blamed you and your ancestors for slavery. That person was probably just angry. It's like how I feel when a white person tells me to "go back to Africa." I'm like how can I go back if I have never been!!! I know many black people that are still stuck in that slave mentality. That doesn't mean that black people today are not affected by the after effects of slavery. It is just not in your face like it was back in the day.

Because the people doing the blaming are more racist than the people they are accusing. It is a sad misconception that only "white" people can be racist. Often, in my experiences, african-americans are more predjudiced and racist than any other peoples. Additionally I hear the "n" word tossed around in songs, everyday talk, and such so often it makes me sick, and I am a "white" person.
Also, it is a "I-am-owed-a-living" mentality. Those persons looking to point a finger are looking for a cop-out to life, blaming their current situation on something that happened in the past. They refuse to acknowledge their problems, or refuse to accept things and move on. Either that or, they do not want to put forth the effort to try and solve things, instead preferring to blame and point fingers.

My ancestors were here before Columbus. I don't know why you are being blamed. I am not blaming you.

It's because they're ignorant. Those who are responsible
should be held accountable for their actions, and those who
profited off the slave trade.

even if your family was here during that time you should not be held responsible for that. you were not involved, you do not agree, you could do nothing to prevent it to happen.
