We've discussed these topics in my Philo class, but they're still kind of foggy to me. Thanks.

If you’re studying Heidegger, he would say ‘human existence’ or ‘Dasein’ rather than ‘man’. Dasein as temporality means that we ARE past, present, and future, with an extra emphasis on future. We are possibility, and obviously possibility is future-oriented. We mostly consist of what we are not yet. Of course the concept of future implies a past. There could be no concept of a future that does not implicitly contain the idea that from some moment, other moments will appear as past. And of course the present is the transition point between the two, although for Heidegger is it not an instantaneous moment, but rather a short span of time – called the ‘specious present’. Anywayz, past, present, and future are all constituent components of human existence – we are that of which we are composed, so if we are made of time, then we are temporal.

‘Facticity’ refers to the the contingent conditions of an individual human life – the concrete details. Like the particular time and place of birth, etc. ‘Transcendence’ means to go beyond, so I guess ‘facticity transcendence’ means going beyond the individual facts of human life. So I suppose human existence as ‘facticity transcendence’ would mean that human existence is more than the sum of the facts of our lives.

‘Historicity’ refers to the fact that we are thrown into a world that has a historical context. We are composed of this world/context; our essence is the world, and this world comes already partially assembled. Sure, there is always some assembly required, but nevertheless, some assembly has always already been done before we arrived. We are born with a past just by the mere fact of being human and fitting into the matrix of meanings and relationships that we know as the world.

Facticity-trascendence: There is drama in our lifes, in the sense that we find ourselves in this World with numerous goals, and limited resources. Events are trasendent in that they help or not in our daily devanours(sp?).

Temporality:

Historicity: Each event is not asolated, but affect us in an accumulative way, like a building in which each story is based on the previous ones.
