My daughter asked me while we were watching a show. On the show the girl had started her period, my daughter simply said, whats that mean? Then we had the talk. I think she was about 9yrs old. If you can't talk to your mom for some reason, email me. k_annkelly@yahoo.com Or do you have an Aunt or Grandma you can talk to? School nurse?

I think you should ask her straight out about periods,if your not sure and are embarrassed then maybe you could say that you heard some girls talk about it and wanted to know what it is. Otherwise start telling her that you are getting some cramps in your lower back and don't know what it could be, and maybe she may think that it might be time she explains! Good Luck.

Just say, hey, what about that time of the month? You know "that" time. You don't have to be too specific. Your mum is a woman, she will know what you mean.

Are you just nervous about asking your mom, or is there a bigger reason why you can't ask her?
You usually can't go wrong with, "Mom, can I ask you something...?" And then you can follow up with something quick, like, "I want to know about periods." :)
