First, we will not achieve any goal in Iraq, as we have demonstated quite successfully elsewhere...the war will drag on, a puppet government of sorts will be set up, we will become disheartened and go home and watch the house of cards fall. However if we stay long enough, we can kill as many as we did in Vietnam, and then go home. Maybe we can be as successful as Cambodia and kill a third of its population. The difference between ourselves and cavemen is the number of people that we can kill at one time...Neolithic people were very inefficient, killing one by one, now with advanced technology, hell we can kill hundreds, thousands and with the big toys even millions quickly. Is it justified? Certainly not! The people that make the wars don't fight in the wars now...there's no George Washington leading the troops, and if you see the fortifications on a general's house in Iraq...reminds you of Fort Knox. They don't suffer the heat, mud, flies and thirst. They don't get shot, and they don't see dead babies, old women, school kids mutilated. Everyone hears the horrors of 9-11....an instant in time....but these people face this everyday...all day....is it justified?

Justified? I'm sure most Americans would say yes, but in war time there are always innocents that parish. Sad to say but not all conflicts can be settled peacefully. Wouldn't that be a better world to live in?

yes. Just like WW2, WW1, and all other wars. Are you saying that we should have let Germany win WW2 because we were incapable of targeting just military targets without any collateral damage?

War is won with the will to do what is necessary to win. Whoever has the strongest will, wins. Simple and accurate. Wish I could take credit, but is is Clausewitz.

Is ignoring the torture, murder and rape of thousands of innocent people and the oppression of millions justified if the goal of 'peace at all costs' is achieved?

So, I will assume that you supported Saddam's use of rape, murder, torture and oppression because you supported keeping him in power.

This is based on your demented logic, not mine.

Yes. Some people are courageous enough to pay the ultimate price. We would not be the nation we are today if others hadn't have done that for us. Sadly, I feel like a lot of people today are more concerned with self-preservation.
