Me and my cousin always argue about this. We went out to the movies a while ago with our kids and when the movie was over, we went to the Hard Rock Cafe. The waitress we had did her job well, but she had the worst attitude towards us. When we left, my cousin left her a tip. I wasn't gonna leave her *** anything.

What do you think? should you tip your waiter/waitress if they are a real b*tch, even if they did everything you asked them to and beyond?

Ok. It's true that waitstaff gets paid below minimum wage and depends on tips to make their living. That being said -- They KNOW they have to depend on tips. They KNOW if they aren't friendly they probably won't get tipped. Therefore, if they are not friendly, they don't deserve a tip. If they were having that bad of a day, they should have just gone home!

If you work in a service position and you can't hide your bad mood any better than that, you should have stayed home that day. You KNOW you depend on your friendliness for your livelihood, so if you can't ALWAYS remain friendly, maybe you should look for a new job!

I MIGHT have left a dollar.

From the point of view of someone who has been waiting tables for ten years: Quite often you do a good job and get stiffed anyway. It doesn't matter how your attitude is most of the time. I had a guy the other day tell me what a great steak he had, we laughed and did the witty banter thing. There was no reason for a lack of tip. He left and didn't even leave enough for the entire bill. I had to foot the rest of the tab. Plus at the end of the night a percentage of each bill goes towards other people. That also comes out of your tips. So I was about $10 in the hole and hadn't had a bite to eat! So when a waitress is not the friendliest, maybe other customers are to blame. Don't take it personal. It's hard to keep smiling when others are dragging you down. And remember most of them have other jobs, school, families, etc. (Believe it or not, I'm also an accountant with a one year old. Waitressing put me through school and now it's paying my student loans.) Thanks for giving your waitress a break this time.

Always tip your server. If service is THAT BAD, then speak with the management. And when I say bad, I mean, you waited 20 minutes for your drinks, the food was cold, she put her hands in your food, etc.....) Many people don't realize that waiters/waitresses are in fact very busy. You're not their only table and if they don't small talk and pat your kid on the head, it's not because they have an attitude it's because they have an expeditor screaming for food runners, a manager screaming to get their *side work* done, and have had to deal with screaming children, shitty tippers, needy, nagging people, on their feet all day, no break, and most of them are moms, or college students who've been up all hours the night before and are relying on a gratuity to make up for their 2.00 an hr pay. SO, always tip.. always..... any one who says otherwise has never spent a day as a waitress.

Yes. And I say this simply because a waiter/waitress depends on your tips for income. As long as she did her job well then a tip is derserved regardless of the attitude. You and your party could be the nice customers but could you imagine how many ignorant, ball busters he/she has to wait on in a given shift? Some customers are just animals and treat you more like a slave and a waitress. I try to keep that in mind when I dine out and I get a cranky server.

leave the bare minimum tip, ask her what was the problem, let her know how you felt the service was or if you cant tell her, tell the manager, dont be afraid of her answer, she's human and having a bad day, HOWEVER she chose to work as a waitress and should be able to do her job without fail or personal interferance. We all have to, my boss doesn't care if im having a bad day or not, he expects performance

I wouldnt tip if they didnt give me good service and left me happy. That's my motto.

My friend and I went out to eat once. We had such horrible service. She wanted to tip her and I didn't!!! So I left her 13 cents as tip in PENNIES. And I hope she learned her lesson. I mean I understand waitressing is a hard task, but I'm sure it's not rocket science. come on now.

You should only tip what they deserve and if that means nothing, then I wouldn't leave anything!

yes, I would. It's a hard job. They are around food ALL DAY LONG, and don't always get nice people like you as customers.
They get paid very little by the actual restaurant, and basically live off there tips.
If and when I have had a wait-person like that, I don't tip them more than 10-15% depending on the situation. If it is really bad, I will ask for a manager.
A great wait-person I will tip anywhere from 20-25%.

I never tip if I`m not happy with the service..its being hypocritical and only makes the surly waiter/waitress think they can get away with bad attitude/service whatever..In my opinion a tip is a symbol of being happy with you waiter/waitress...after all why should bad service receive the same rewards as good.

I NEVER leave no tip. If the waitress did her job, and wasn't all smiles and happy, who cares. Servers have to report a certain percentage of their sales as tips. which means if you leave no tip, then it COSTS them money to serve you. How is that fair?

Incidentally, you never mentioned how YOU treated the WAITRESS. That could have an awful lot to do with her bad attitude.

Leave a small tip like 10% it lets the person know they did a poor job. This person did serve you well and doesn't deserve to be stiffed for a poor attitude. Do you know why she was miserable, there could be some other factors at work.
