Trust,Honesty, Loyalty are the three best ways to keep a friendship running. If you can't trust them or if they can't trust you then it's not going to work You have to be completly and totally honest in the friendship telling lies and keeping secrets kills a friendship. You have to be loyal. If your freind feels that you will betray them or if you feel they will betray you it's not going to work.
Hope this helps.

I have an ex-friend who has a lot of trouble keeping friends. As far as I know, she really doesn't have any. Her main problem is that she is extremely critical of everyone. As far as she's concerned, no one can do or say anything right. She gets angry at you for the littlest thing that you say or do wrong, and has no tolerance for the most human of mistakes. People get tired of that kind of thing very quickly. I've never known of anyone being able to stay friends with her for more than a few months.

You also want to be honest with your friends, don't talk about them behind their backs, and be true to them. If you really care about them, that in and of itself should take care of a lot of those things. Treat people as if you care about them.

it starts from selection of ur friends. u need to select people from ur age group. is it that ur friends find it difficult to keep u or the other way? do an introspection whenever a problem arises. step in their shoes and assess the situation. may be u r wrong. u need to tune yourself to their frequency. do not expect ur friend to tune him/herself to yours initially. Or r u of that kind who keep 'friends' for ur gains and forget and later regret???

Honesty tempered with kindness. Shared interests and senses of humour are also important.
