Important because , say if you were an office administrator, then you go to the warehouse and try to remove a heavy palette, you have not had training on how to safely do, then you will be responsible for your actions. The work place has a duty of care to you, but equally important is the duty of care that you have too in acting responsibly and not putting yourself in danger, or others.

it is the employees responsiblitie to lessen the risk of an accident happening, but is aultimatly the employers responsiblity. but if it went to court, the employee has to show that they were not "stupid" and they followed "common sense", but say they did that and something bad still happen, then its the employers sole responsibility. this is like this as compensation can be lower if the employee did not contribute to bringing down the risk of health and safety.
