I have one, and I think it's excellent.

It's not just the sucking power (!) that's good. They've got all sorts of really cleverly designed bits and pieces for vacuuming your stairs, easily unclipping the canister to empty it etc.

If the telescope arm works, but there is no suction otherwise, then something is blocking the flow from the bottom of the vacuum. Look underneath the vacuum, and see if there is any way to disconnect a tube or hose that feeds into the cyclone. If need be, call Dyson support (number on the website) and be prepared to tell them what model number, they can also talk you through this. Once you find whatever is blocking the path and remove it, your vacuum should work fine again.

Our family has one large shedding dog & two shedding kitty cats who spend a good amount of time in the house. The Dyson Animal(?) (the purple & grey one) is what we purchased about one & a half years ago. It does do an excellent job of cleaning the carpets & hardwood floor. I don't know if it is better than other brands. I know I like not having to buy bags & emptying the canister is so quick & easy. The price is really something but so far I am happy with it's performance.

They are good, but a bit overpriced. I bought a new vacuum this year, and was considering a Dyson. I picked the Hoover Windtunnel instead, and I'm glad I did. It works wonderfully, has almost all the same features as the Dyson, but was over $100 cheaper.

YES! Absolutely!! Especially if you have any pets. We got ours last year and are amazed by how much dirt and hair it sucks up. We fill the cannister each time we vacuum our 2 bdrm. home. It's hard to imagine where all that filth was going before we got the Dyson... probably just stayed on the floor... yuck! Our Dyson was worth every penny.

I love my Dyson!! Bought it about 4 months ago. I have the yellow all floors one. I love that I can switch to bare floors to do my tile kitchen/dining room floors, then I switch it right back to carpet for the rest of the house. It works great!!!! And you don't have to buy bags. But you do need to clean the filter every once in awhile though. I think the only vaccuum that's better than the Dyson is the Kerby (sp?), but they are a fortune!!!

Go to SEARS and get a good canister vac. An upright vac will never clean as good and have the options as a canister. We just did a study on the subject. The only disadvantage is you have to buy filters and bags.

'Worst vacuum made. Very cheap plastic. cheapo beater brush. Parts are expensive. Kirby is the best vacuum cleaner, period'

for $500 that thing ought to have dinner in the oven when I get home!! Hard to believe it can be that much better than any other model on the market.
