I do not know what kind of buffalo you are taking about.

Where I come from (South Africa) there are lots of buffalo in the game reserve. They are normally in herds. If you see one that is alone it is likely to be an old male that has been kicked out of the herd by a more dominant male. It could also mean its injured. Buffalo account for a hugh number of deaths and they can be aggressive. View it from the Land Rover.

Believe it or not a lot of people are killed every year by wild buffalo in our state parks. Sometimes it is just human stupidity and sometimes it is a bad mistake. A birthing female will separate herself from the herd and find a grassy or bushy place to give birth of her calf in peace and in cover from predators. Unfortunately, if she is laying down in cover some people stumble across her and of course she is already on high alert.

I think it is always best to keep a VERY safe distance if you see a herd of Buffalo. Especially, in the spring when females are birthing and bulls are fighting to mate.

Take Care

I suppose it depends on how close you are to it and where you are. They generally are not mean unless provoked so do not get to close to it. At a safe distance you will be fine. Do not provoke it and it will leave you be. If you are not in a national park or protected area, kill it, they are delicious!

just kidding on the killing part part but buffalo is delicious.

Depends on where you spot it. If it's crossing the road, DON'T run into it! Otherwise, take pictures, appreciate it from afar, and don't get too friendly. Maybe you can find a calf in a petting zoo.
