I mean really, my school taxes are more than double my property taxes and the second day of school we are fund rasing for the PTA so they can pay for the kids to take feild trips, books every year for each child (casual reading not text books), art supplies etc...we didn't have school taxes in Ohio and the kids still got all that stuff and the classes were smaller....

That's nothing. Where I live (in Illinois), schools receive an average of 78% of the property taxes, get additional funds from taxes on casinos, receive federal subsidies, and still hold fund raisers. In addition, if a tax payer wishes to attend a school event (sports, concerts, etc.) he must pay admission to a facility he paid to build and pays to maintain, run by people whose salaries he pays, and utilizing equipment he pays for. Despite all of this, schools are constantly bemoaning their poverty!

Take a guess how much PTA fund raisers collect and compare that to the cost of for example having a janitor in the school to clean it. Common sense says that those fund raisers don't really support the school. They just add money for things not in the school budget. Go to the next school board meeting and ask for a copy of the budget and see if you can find anything in there that you personally would cut if you were in charge.

In my town the senior citizens had a campaign against increases in school budget because they thought that way. Now they are coming back and circulating a petition saying that the town should spend its money instead on a new senior center for their relaxation and entertainment.

In Ohio the taxes had bundled school costs into the overall tax bill so you couldn't see whether they were high. I am sure that the lack of school taxes didn't mean that the school buildings were built and maintained for free and that the people who work in them are all volunteers.

It's not just PA, I live in NY and they do the same thing! Why do kids have to wander shopping centers selling candy bars if they just raised the taxes for the past 6 years in a row?? Because the school board pi$$e$ away the money on new security cars every year, raises all around, trips to "conventions & seminars" in Vegas and to Disney, NO co-pays or contributions for medical or dental for school employees or teachers...What taxpayers have a sweet deal like that? And it's true, according to the local papers at least 1/4 the kids in the school system here don't speak English and are children of illegals. They need special services and "free meals".... all paid for by the taxpayers.

Taxes help to pay for essentials, and ALL THE THINGS THE SCHOOL NEEDS. PA teachers are some of the highest paid teachers in the US. The PTA does not pay for building maint., teacher salaries etc...

If people only knew how/where the school taxes are being spent.. what a rip off and a disgusting waste of money. Of course, nowadays.. most of the money is being spent on illegal children attending our school system that the stupid government allows the taxpayers(not the illegals) to pick up the bill and the stupid, naive taxpayers are so dumb that they allow it.

I don't live in PA, but what is really annoying is when a daycare which the tuition is paid for by the parents has a fundraiser.
