ok, i am going to give this one a serious answer because i take stress relief very seriously
its different for different types of stress for me
when i am mad at my boss, sex is the best relief...makes me feel better about my self because my hubby makes me feel so loved
when i am mad at my kids, a really brisk walk or running really fast helps...(and it keeps the kids from getting spanked)
when i am mad at my husband or mother in law i beat the crap out of a punching bag.....then i go out in nature and yell a little...then i return to the bag and finish it off
if stress is caused by a busy schedule the best thing to do is YOGA...very calming....lately i have done pilates too, but i have not decided yet if they are as relaxing as yoga
other things i do:
get a massage
hang upside down on the kids monkey bars (great for aggression)
talk it out with a close friend (this one works the best when taking classes, friends give a great boost)
meditation beside the river
and when all else fails...i grind my teeth until one of my molars break then i have to go to the dentist and have it repaired....i tell my dentist all about it and he tells me off and treats me like a kid....then i get home, take a little yellow pill, and sleep!

There are hundreds of technique's out there. But before I Get into them let me just say that there so little research done in this field that it is just shameful.( and it is only b/c of the "big boys" in the field that don't want the research done since they can lose potentially billions of dollars). OK sry let me continue what I was saying in beginning. You should definitely try reducing the stress thru the source of whats causing it but working on the assumption that you cant I would advise, since it is effecting your sleep patterns (which can be the source of your stress(don't think about it to much just listen)). What I know works and you should try is a simple breathing technique that I always use when I am having trouble sleeping Deep breathing and feeling all your muscles loosen. It takes practice. You must do a lot more research on the subject b/c it is huge, way too much to type up. To make it easier try researching "guided imagery" That is guarantied to help reduce stress also look into breathing techniques sry I cant elaborate, but you should definitely research the subject it will make a difference. Good Luck :)
