When you say acoustic, do you mean nylon or steel string?

I don't know enough about nylon, but I would recommend Ernie Ball for steel string. I have them on my guitar and they stay in turn very nicely.

You don't say what type the guitar is nor what you play.

If the guitar is classical then you need nylon strings and any of the "known" brands are OK.

If steel acoustic then DO NOT put nylon on it it will sound very poor indeed. If you tend to strum then you will need a medium string but if you are finger picking then a light to very light sting If you do both go for a light gauge. There are a number of sites that tell you about string gauges. Also, I would go for phosphor bronze strings as they have a lovely bright but melodic sound.

In either case, check out your local guitar shop and get some good advice. The guys who run them are usually players themselves and you don't need to be concerned if you are a beginner - we all are or were!

Good Luck

I still after 4 years of playing use light gauge (9 or 10). They are easier to move around, but that can be a problem for a biginner also. Best way is see what you like.

Nylon aren't good for some guitars, so make sure they are right first, but they are easier on the fingers.

D'addarios are what I use. They tend to keep their tone longer and break less often than others. They're fairly inexpensive as well. If you wipe your strings with a dry cloth after playing, they will last a lot longer. I usually buy lights or mediums, depending on whether I do more flat picking or finger picking.

Any brand will do for begginers, make sure you buy nylon strings though, they are much better on your fingers and soft. Good Luck, hope to hear some killer riffs from you.

I always use d addario strings for the best sound available. They last longer than any other strings and are made of top quality materials.
