SOLVE THIS! The Three Switches:
In your living room are three light switches, all of them currently in the OFF position. Each switch controls one of three different lamps in another room of the house. You would like to find out which light switch goes to which lamp.
You may turn on and off any of the switches any number of times, but you may only go into the other room to inspect the lamps once. How can you determine the switch for each lamp with just one trip to the other room? All 3 lamps are in the same room. You cannot see the other room or the light coming from it without actually going to the room.

Turn switch #1 on
Turn switch #2 on for a couple of minutes, then off

Go into other room.

The lamp that's on is connected to switch #1

Now, touch the two lightbulbs that are off. The warm one is connected to switch #2

The final lamp is switch #3

switch one on and leave it on, switch one on for, say two mins. the third switch should be switched on for the last thirty seconds of the previous switches two mins. switch the second two off before you go into the other room. the lamp controlled by the 'on' switch will be self explanatory, one of the other lamps will be hotter than the other. that will correspond to your other two switches.
