You are not personally responsible for the actions of our military. As a citizen, you are responsible for electing competent leaders that establish direction and goals for our military. The President is still the Commander In Chief of the military. Are you responsible for the actions for everyone at your work or school - of course not. So how can you be personally responsible for the actions of our military?
The military is composed of people, nearly all are good hardworking honest people that are willing to take the risk associated with military service. But like any large group, and society too, there is always a percentage of ignorant people that do stupid things. The military tries to identify and eliminate those types. Society places them in jail or prison.
The President and Congress are ultimate controllers of the military and theoretically, we are suppose control Congress and the President - by elections.

There are many degrees of responsibility. While a disconnected individual can bear no direct responsibility for the actions of an individual Marine located half way around the world, in a democracy we each bear partial responsibility for the selection of our leaders and, therefore, indirectly bear partial responsibility for the policies and actions of our nation as a whole.

We don't get to wear the medals and recieve the honors, only the servicemembers themselves. They voulenteer to preform the job of defending the American people, and defend those who cannot fend for themselves In that sense we are seperate.
But we should take pride in the fantastic job they do on a daily basis, because they represent us as a nation. Any great society in history has always honored their warriors. When our soldiers fall, it pains us and we should honor their sacrifice. In that sense, we are unified.

It is the Politicians who are responsible for the Military, you are responsible for the Politicians.
Just remember the Military are doing the job they are told to do and paid to do, if you have a beef with that, take it up with your Politician.
