It seems like housing will be a lot more expensive if they use union laborers to build them. How come some states use only union labor and others use most likely undocumented workers? There is a big difference in pay scale and therefore a big difference in the cost to build. Do you have any state laws that require workers to be trained, licensed or union? This is a hard question to find a category for. Home and garden seemed the closest.

There are union workers in Louisiana, but there are now laws that require it. The contractor is licensed, but the laborers are just minimum wage employees. I know because I used to do that!

Yes, union laborers are more expensive, but also very well trained. The extra cost would be well worth it to me if I knew my house was being built by well-trained craftsmen.

It also depends on whether your state is a "right to work state" or not. That makes a big difference on who can be hired to work on your house.

nope unions are stupid, they were good at first but now laws are in place to prevent things from hapening to workers so unions are useless...
