There are numerous web pages to get history from, it just depends on the type of history you are looking for. If you pull up IE and type in the type of history you want, all the links to the pages will come up. So be specific when you type in your request and let the web do its work. I find that college class links are the best...

Hmm. Depends on what you need. Start with refdesk.com: http://www.refdesk.com/facthist.html -- they've got links to tons of stuff, and hit lots of important historical info. Rather than being one site, it sends you to many different sites, from Library of Congress to Museums and Universities.
Best of History Web Sites is also a really good one: http://www.besthistorysites.net/ *tons* of links!
Basic USA history can be found at ushistory.org: http://www.ushistory.org/ -- I really like how that site is set up, it's fun to surf. :)
Good luck, and I hope this helped!
