make sure ur face is clean and moisturized
if you can, get some primer (laura mercier is a good brand)... it primes the skin and makes it smoother, and also makes makeup stay on longer
if you have liquid foundation, use a foundation brush, kind of looks like an Artist brush
if u have foundation/powder (i use Merle Norman, really good coverage), use a wet sponge
if u have a good translucent powder (i think lorac has a good one), use a powder brush, the fat one, to dust over and "buff" the skin smooth
good luck! when in doubt, don't use too much product. u can always go back and do another layer if necessary~

What I used to do was use the liquid foundation.. But, it made my face look too Oily, and fake, as you say.. So, I started to getting a tan on my arms and shoulders, chest, over the summer, so I switched my foundation to powder-form... And I colored coordinated it, with my tan, in which I didn't have one on my face, because the only reason I had it everywhere else, was just from living in the high desert, from running errands, and being out in the sun alot... However, this powdered foundation looks so real, (my mom, who's a make-up artist, thought it was a tan, not make-up), but, I made sure that this foundation covered my whole entire, face, nose, between my eyebrows, the sides of my face, under my jaw, and all around the jaw, even under the jaw a tad, in case I looked-up, alls people would see was the color, not lines... And so on.. I also use a sponge, so that it comes on evenly, and put it on, in the living room where there's alot of light, so you can easily see all the flaws, and fix them.. Good-Luck, to you with this! I hope I was of some help.. Smile!

Before you put any make up on you should prepare your skin, cleanse, tone and moisturise.
To apply foundation use a foundation brush, put a pea sized amount of foundation on your hand you know the part where your thumb ends near your wrist, this way you won't get it everywhere, lightly dab your foundation over your face and blend working downwards, keep blending until the lines have faded.
You may have been putting too much foundation on or they might not have been suitable for your skin type. if you have oily skin you should wear a powdery one and dry skin and oil based one.
Good luck x

I would recommend those brands loreal for example, they have true colour, which supposed to matches your tone as well as colour.
Use a make up base lotion prior to foudation will help it looking smooth and not cakey. I also mix my foundation with a water based moisturiser, on days when I do not need so much coverage. This way I don't need to invest in hundreds of bottle of foudation!!!

Simple....add water.
I never put just foundation on my face. I can't stand that look....
So I blot the foundation on my face, say like a couple dots on my forehead a couple on each cheek, then one on my chin and nose.
Then with the water running slowly I dip my fingers into the water and start rubbing the foundation on my face. It looks so much better because it's diluted. You must try it....
good luck ! ! ! !

Try using a brush. After you pad on the foundation, take a make-up brush, and sweep away excess, and watch out for the chin line, thats where "masking" comes from.

Go buy BareMinerals. It's a bit expensive, but it lasts for months! And its great for your skin b/c it doesn't have a lot of those chemicals just minerals. you'll fall in love with it. Even these great brands (Estee lauder, Mac, etc) have bad things in their foundation.
BareMinerals is the thing to use!

Estee Lauder has brilliant foundations!
Do the forehead very lightly, and only do the bottom half of it. Do your chin and then over your lip...
Make you sure that blend it well, with a blusher brush. Sounds crazy?!

I mix it with my moisturizer before I apply to my face, you won't have to as much on and it rubs in a lot easier. I apply with my hands, so I put a little dab of both then blend and apply.
