It really does depend on how you define 'famous'.

He was famous in the sense that he was able to make it to the major leagues... but he was really just a very-slightly-above average pitcher (I say slightly above average because he did last 9 years in the majors, longer than an average career, and his W-L record of 82-72 (.532) was above .500.

His influence on baseball history is limited. He really had no impact on the history of the game, other than what he accomplished, stat-wise.

It's a shame.

He was an average pitcher at best but had a few good years with the A's and did ok with the yanks. I think he will be remembered more for crashing on 10/11/06 (5yrs and 1month after 9/11) than as a pitcher.

I have just read a story of his death and I think he did it his way. many often face walls in life they can not seem to get through and I think Cory stopped at a sign in the sky , his aim was high but not high enough because he met the material world of that building, some of us forget others all around when our thoughts leave the earth for that other realm, I'm sure it was not his intention to cause such a stir ,or to leave behind such pain ,as his journey crossed over the boundary, peace at all cost, his weight was heavy burdened and he simply lay them down.

It depends on who you ask. In the sports world, he was very famous, but in the general world, not as much. You will hear about him for a few months on ESPN. But I'd say in a few weeks he won't be talked about on regular and national news.

no, he was just profressional baseball player for one of the most popular teams in the nation, so i think his fame was very limited to his own fanbase.
