First, a man should be checked for general health problems. Diabetes, for example, can cause sexual problems, but if untreated it can kill you! So rule out that kind of trouble first.

Be honest with the doctor about the sexual difficulties and ask for a prescription for Viagra or one of the similar drugs - they do work!

Caution! Viagra is expensive, and insurance usually does not pay for it. But do not try to save money by buying "Viagra" from some site in a spam e-mail you get. Those pills look like Viagra but have NONE of the active ingredients! They can be dangerous, as the criminals who make these things are only after your money and do not care if they sell you something that will make you sick! I heard on TV that some of these pill factories make their fake pills out of drywall. Buy only from a real pharmacy or you could have very serious problems.

Recent or old isn't that the question.
When erectile dysfunction appears, the first thing to value is to verify if it gets organic causes. Checking if your penis gets some spontaneous erection during the night mainly, just will be a simple way to exclude any organic dysfunction.
Generally, the most part of the erectile disease comes from psychological problem and lost of sexual desire.
For these causes the Viagra pill is the only best drug available today. Before taking it, it's advisable a cardiologic control.

If your talking about erectile disfunction, having problems keeping an erection, there can be many causes. Stress can cause erectile problems in men. I know I've been there, had alot of stress and it caused me to suffer in that area. Also age can cause it, when men get older, it's not uncomon for men to have difficulty keeping an erection.

But there is medication to help, like Viagra & Cialis. And I've heard that they do work.

Hope that this helps.
