What about the straight and backup (hooking the ball in the opposite direction of their regular hook that their hands release) bowlers? I've seen straight bowlers average about 200 in league play. They just love attacking the pockets with direct angles. Also, I bowled with and lost to a backup bowler in a PBA regional tournament in the 80's. The most different bowler I've seen was PBA Pro Champion Mike Miller and a few other regional pros that cupped the ball and delivered it without using their thumbs.

Spinners are still out there! I've seen them bowl in televised overseas bowling tournaments and they can average over 200 as well. It's just how much practice and experience you have that determines how well you will bowl.

it just depends on the skil level of the bowler...a good hook bowler is going to beat a spinner more in the long run becausebowlers who spin the ball .most of the time have no idea on where the ball is going or how much it is going to move or even which direction it is going..i have been a hook bowler for year and have had on of the highest avgs in the houise i bowl in for the past 15 years

There are three grips in bowling, conventional, semi-fingertip and full fingertip. A full fingertip ball hooks more than the other two.
There is nothing worse than a full fingertip ball in use by a person who can't control it.
If you look a league play there are winners using each type of ball. It all boils down to control.
