As long as its happening over time and not over night then its just a normal color change.

See the fish in my pic? I bought him as a black moor, he not only turned orange but his tail is also most all white.

The same happened to my fish. It turned white gradually over time (about a year). I thought it would end up dying, but 2 years on it is still alive. Furthermore it is more active then my other 2 fish who are the same age (6years old) and did not change colour. I don't know what causes some fish to change colour over time: Maybe it is a genetic thing that occurs in some fish.

What food are you feeding it (ignore Its about to die dear) breeders add colourants to the food they give the fish to make them gold, the original colour of a goldfish is nearer to the colour you fish is turning into, a pale pinkie white shade, I've had several fish turn from gold to this and they've lived for years the longest for 17. you can buy foods that with turn him back gold,

Is he's in a tank on his own or with others if you have varies shades of fish they all like to blend in together, my black moor turned gold when he had 5 gold buddies in the tank with him.

so don't worry he'll be fine but you can always add a little tonic to his next change of water to make sure he's OK.

Koi, goldfish and othertypes of fish commonly change color over time, some go through several color combinations. As long as the change is gradual and not sudden then all is fine. Behavior in a fish is the key. As long as the fish is eating and swimming normally then there isn't much to worry about.

Your gold fish may be either, some, or all of the ff:
1. Starving. Fish color fades with hunger and malnutrition. Feed him in the right amount 2-3 times a day.
2. Sick. He might be having fungal infection of some sort. You should consult with your pet shop.
3. Old. Fish color also fades with age.
4. Uncomfortable. He may be uncomfortable with his environment. You may consider changing the water in his tank, the substrate, the plants, accessories, his tank mates, or the location of his tank.
5. Dying. Fish color changes when the fish is about to die.
6. Dyed Orange, nor really Orange. Some fish breeders intentionally dye fish specimen to increase commercial value and be more appealing to the market. Your fish must be revealing its true color.

You might be feeding it a different food to what it was eating in the shop, many goldfish foods have marigold extract to increase the orange colouration (like flamigoes are only pink cos of the fish they eat)

this is nothing to be concerned by at all. your goldfish is just showing signs of ageing, much in the way that us humans go grey haired. i have a "silver" goldfish and it has happily been silver for about two years now!

It's probably a fungal infection or white spot you can buy drops to put in the water, but It's possible you have left it too late. See a vet immediately.
