Most animals don't display what we consider emotions until you get to the mammal level of intelligence. So no, fish don't have emotions.

Interestingly enough, I think they do to an extent. Let me tell you why. I was watching something on t.v., can't remember the show, but this lady had two goldfish. One of the goldfish was suffering from a deformity of the swim bladder, so it had no control or ability to swim. When she would feed her gold fish, the healthy goldfish would push the deformed one to the surface to get food. I watched it on t.v. being taped. Blew my mind, it made me think for a moment.

Normally, emotions provoke us to do something that goes beyond instinct. We no longer are looking just to survive, but we are looking to help our follow creatures. That is exactly what this goldfish was doing for his tank mate.

There most be something there.

Good Luck and Take Care

If you hit the side of the tank the fish will jump because its scared and fear is an emotion. I have also heard stories of people having 2 goldfish in a tank, one died and the other one became very lonely looking and would only hang out in a corner. Once they bought a new fish the old fish would act like itself again. Loneliness is also an emotion.

I don't really know for sure, but my Mom was watching a show on fish and there was a study done on goldfish that proved that they FART! FOR real someone gave these scientists money to research if goldfish fart! SO if they fart, then maybe they laugh about it too??? That would involve emotions.

I think so....My goldfish was so happy I changed her water, she was jumping for joy...Unfortunately, she jumped out of the water while I was gone and when I returned, she had died on the table. WA_A_A_A_!
